Graymade delivered civil construction works to improve and secure access to a manhole asset at Statham Avenue, North Rocks. The project involved the installation of a gabion retaining system and associated access infrastructure to stabilise the embankment surrounding an existing concrete overflow and manhole structure located adjacent to a watercourse.

The works included excavation, placement of engineered rock-filled gabion baskets in a stepped arrangement, ground profiling, placement of granular fill and topsoil capping, and construction of a new galvanised handrail system fixed to the existing concrete structure. The retaining system was designed to improve access, reduce erosion risks and provide long-term embankment stability while maintaining safe access to underground assets.

Constructed within a constrained environment adjacent to existing infrastructure and mature vegetation, the project required careful site management and coordination to minimise environmental impacts while delivering a durable and maintainable solution. The completed works enhance asset accessibility, improve site safety and provide long-term protection of critical wastewater infrastructure.
